IN THE EVENT OF AN
EMERGENCY OR CRIME IN PROGRESS, Constable’s Bulletin August 2008 By Constable A. J. Dorr It’s that time of year again where we will have to alter our schedules and move into a faster pace around the house in the mornings. School will be in session once more. Our old habits of driving in the school zones, with a positive attitude, will have to be reviewed or renewed. We know that children will have a poky morning and may not move as fast as they should. Be careful not to carry this frustration while in route to the school. There is no excuse putting others in danger or circumventing safety concerns because of someone’s’ tardiness. Safety and courtesy should be the rule of each day. If you are late, then you are late, do better next time. For those children walking or riding their bikes or boards, parents should map out your child’s safest route to and from school or bus stop. Do a trial run with them to point out places they should avoid along the way, such as vacant lots, construction areas, and parks where there aren’t many people. Teach your children to follow traffic signals and rules when walking or biking. Stress that they should cross the street at crosswalks or intersections with a crossing guard. Do not leave the corner until the crossing guard signals to cross. Encourage your children to walk with other classmates or friends. Remind the children how strangers use tricks to try and lure them to their car. Also, help your children to memorize their phone number and full address. Write down other important phone numbers, like your work numbers on a card for your children to carry with them. A note on solicitors: We have noted that some solicitors have asked questions about their neighbors, their names, how many children they have and are they at home. Why give a complete stranger all this information? When the solicitor gets to your neighbor’s house, he/she mentions YOUR name and says how satisfied you are with the product they are selling, when you didn’t purchase anything in the first place. Have you ever known anyone who comes to your door to sell you a bill of goods and was truthful with their presentation? You don’t even have to open the door for them. Besides giving them a reply of NO THANK YOU, I am not interested today (through a closed door), you may ask them to leave a brochure or a business card at the door and state that you will contact the company if you are interested in a purchase. Do not accept any excuses from them if they do have information on the product. What ever you do, don’t tell them to come back later, they will return. Buying something from them does not really make them go away. Think about the information you just gave about yourself to a complete stranger. Remember calling our office for a house watch when you leave for that vacation or trip out of town to see the relatives. Our office is open M – F, 8 am – 5pm, we are closed on holidays. Our phone number is 281-341-4536. Juvenile Curfew A juvenile curfew is enforced within the boundaries of Fort Bend MUD 23. Click on the link below for curfew information.
